Rose DeConto was part of the first GALS trip in summer 2017. In this blog post, she describes herself, her GALS North Carolina experience, and her advice for future GALS participants.
My name is Rose DeConto.
I play the guitar but only grungy power chords.
I draw weird, edgy stuff.
I am pretty introverted, though I am also very loud and assertive.
I usually stay inside and prefer my dog to people.
That being said, I am glad I did this.
I was a GALS participant in the summer of 2017
I had never gone backpacking, or even really camping before this.
(car camping doesn’t count as camping)
Here is my advice for you, wayward girl.
Drink water, seriously.
Bring a camera. I wish I had.
Write down everything that happens. Everything.
That college essay isn’t going to write itself.
Bring baby wipes. Bring more plastic bags than you think you need.
Bring more underwear and socks than you think you need.
GALS is physically challenging.
